    Driving with Automatic Transmission

    Wednesday, March 12, 2008, 01:31 AM [Cars]

In the past month, it was the only time I started to drive a car with automatic transmission. I have been used to driving vehicles with manual transmission for more than 30 years. The reason I did not like cars with automatic transmission is because of the engines sound like a sliding clutch and is not as responsive as a car with manual transmission. It is more challenging and exciting to drive with standard gear shifting.

Well, I had to learn how to use the automatic transmission properly to achieve fuel economy while not sacrificing engine power. The car is a 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer and the shifter had the regular P, R, N, D, L1 and L2 shifting options. This really made me say that it is so easy to drive with automatic transmission. But then, I saw two buttons, one on the gear stick shaft and another on the console below it. The button on the console is easier to understand because it had the options to press for either power or economy. When I pressed the button on the stick shaft, a display showed on the instrument panel said "Off O.D.". O.D. means over-drive. This meant that when driving with automatic transmission with overdrive "On", it means a gear on the transmission is delivering a speed faster than the engine speed. This is the reason that when going downhill, you need to step on the brakes more frequently! When it is on the "Off O.D." setting, the engine brakes will help in slowing down the car downhill. This means that the engine speed is governing the speed of the car and you will have lesser need for the use of the brake. For uphill driving, it is not very noticeable but it helps very much when in times there is a need to decelerate then accelerate again.

So, when is it best to use with the Overdrive set “On”? It is best to use when driving on generally flat roads and while cruising on the highway. It relieves stress from the engine and would give better fuel economy. Once you have gotten the hang of when to use that button, it will be an advantage using it with the power and economy button. There are some cars though that do not have the power and economy button. To get more mileage out of driving a car with automatic transmission, take time to learn when and where to use the “Off and On” settings of the Overdrive button. I am now getting better fuel economy with its proper use. Technorati Profile

    Post Mailboxes

    Friday, March 7, 2008, 09:59 PM [General]

The importance of mailboxes can not be neglected as these would contain ‘hardcopies’ of mails sent to us that may not be available on its original state online or through email.  Most of mails sent by post to us that are personal or business in nature would need to be post-mailed.  This is where I find Whitehall Mailboxes to be able to do the job of preserving the post mail sent to us.  There are many important documents being sent by post and most of them are printed on regular paper that could easily get wet or torn.  It is rare that they have protective covering or enveloped, such as in plastic.  It is only door-to-door couriers that protect mail with plastic envelopes and need to be signed for receipt.

Custom Mailboxes or Personalized Mailboxes are available with Whitehall Mailboxes to suit your preferences.  This would make for mailmen easier identification of name, number and address when made-to-order mailboxes are customized or personalized.  Aside from that, the Whitehall Mailboxes have different versions or models that are Premium, Superior, Ultimate and Wall-Mounted.  This, of course, depends on the applicability of the model or version on the location you would want them installed.  For protection of post mail, style, elegance and durability of mailboxes, I would go for Whitehall Mailboxes.  Only a few could provide this and with the looks alone of the different models or versions of Whitehall Mailboxes, it presents to be safe enough from culprits who would want to make identity theft through post mailed items.

    Interesting Credit Cards

    Thursday, March 6, 2008, 07:34 PM [General]

There is one site that makes comparison of credit cards. It is interesting to find that there are interest free credit cards on balance transfer ranging from 6 months to 15 months! They charge a fee of between 2.5% to 3.0% for this. Interest free for some too, for new purchases for three months or until the month or year stated. The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) also shows on the comparisons, along with some loyalty schemes. Looking at these, I had wished that the offers are available globally. I believe that there are several that have some tie-ups with financial institutions abroad or they have internationally accredited banks or branches where these offers would be applicable.

Recently, we have been having problems with four credit cards. One thing was the mistake of going over the limit on each of them. The minimum payments being were far below the rate on how those credit cards were being used. We only had to apply for a credit card on one and the rest came after the first on. The succeeding three credit cards we got were just sent to be used immediately! We did not have to sign for anything except in receiving those cards. Since we had issues on those credit cards, I have been on the internet so many times last month, until now, to find a way to improve the situation. Some were legal means and others that I don’t understand how to make debts zero without any payment. Anyway the site has brought light on how to get credit cards and make reliable comparisons on several aspects. This site about credit cards does really a lot of help.

    Playing Poker

    Tuesday, March 4, 2008, 06:55 PM [General]

The only poker game I have played, live, is the Russian Poker.  A total of 13 cards are dealt to each player to play poker.  With only 52 cards on the deck, only 4 four players could be accommodated to participate.  The cards are arranged and played with 3 cards on top which is called the ‘good set’, a middle set of 5 cards called ‘better’ and below another 5 cards called the ‘best set’.  The set below would consist of the 5 best cards, the middle would consist of the next best 5 cards and the top 3 cards is what would remain out of the 13 cards.  The cards chosen by the player depends on how ‘strong’ he can make out of all the cards he has on hand.  Sometimes, as luck has it, you could only make three pairs out of all the 13 cards.  Some players would arrange the lowest pair to be on top and the highest pair below.  They do this to avoid losing 3 sets of 3 to other players.  It’s fun playing it because most of the time, you could have many choices in arranging your cards.

In several online gaming sites, I tried to find if any of them play the Russian poker.  I have gone to one online poker site that says it’s the world’s largest poker room.  Navigating the site, all the poker games were the standard American poker.  With these games, your option is only the best that can be made out of it.  On the Russian poker, unless you have a Royal Flash or 4-of-a-kind, a full house can even be split as a Trio and a Pair on two different levels.  Going back to the site, I looked around because it might be somewhere else.  I found out it has poker tutorial for beginners or new players.  The web site could also be presented and translated in several languages!  Well, I wanted to check out with the Russian language because they might have that game for them.  But logic came to my mind, why would they offer something different in another language.  Anyway, the web site is a very appreciable online poker because it provides so much information and assistance.  If I did not find what I was looking for there, maybe I will not find it in any other online poker site.

    Real Estate in Hawaii

    Saturday, March 1, 2008, 07:16 PM [General]

In most fields of professional practice, there are many branches or areas of specialization.  For the real estate profession there are those who specialize in several aspects.  There are those specialize only on leases or rentals, some condominium sales, commercial properties and other categories of real estate.  For large real estate brokerage or companies, some may be able to handle all those categories.  One nice category specialization, if I may term it to be, is all real estate categories but within specified areas only.  One that could be found on the internet is Hawaii real estate on property selling and buying.  This is very specific for those who want to invest, sell or buy real estate property in Hawaii.

With several nice areas and locations in Hawaii, they would also have specific listings for them like Kauai real estate or Maui real estate.  With this type of specialization, those who are doing property search online narrow down the search to a specific location of interest.  This saves a lot of time, money and effort before doing actual or physical search and inspection of properties.  Also, they offer rental places in the area itself for those who intend to go house hunting, for example, for a Maui real estate property.  There is even a directory for real estate terms to guide those not familiar with some terms!  This adds a lot convenience for those who intend to relocate.  There are also some side offers for vacation rentals, on foreclosed properties and even travel accommodations.  Narrowing down to specifics when searching online, really has its good advantages.
